Abstract:

McGill University

Postdoctoral Researcher

Job ID: JR0000058361

Cestari Lab (https://www.cestarilab.com)

Overview

A postdoctoral position is available to investigate signalling, transcriptional control, and genome organization in trypanosomes. Trypanosomes are single-celled protozoan parasites that cause diseases in humans and animals. The candidate will explore the role of signalling and transcriptional regulators in genome organization and the expression of genes essential for pathogen evasion of host antibody responses. This pathogen periodically alters the expression of genes encoding surface antigens to escape antibody recognition during infection, a process known as antigenic variation.

The project includes genome 3D organization (Hi-C), generation of mutant cell lines, DNA/RNA sequencing, ChIP-seq, protein interaction analysis (mass spectrometry), and single-cell sequencing. Knowledge of molecular and cellular biology and computational approaches is desirable.

Duties

Perform experiments to generate mutant cells and analyze DNA, RNA, and protein changes. Large data analysis using sophisticated computational resources/tools. Write publications, attend conferences, organize data, and support less experienced trainees. Conduct independent research and collaborate with team members.

Skills

PhD in molecular and cellular biology or related field. Hands-on molecular and cellular biology experience and knowledge of bioinformatics.
