Position Description

We seek motivated scientists to join an international consortium focused on genetic methods to study bacteria and archaea in ruminant livestock, significant contributors to methane emissions. Over two years, we aim to develop the genetic tools needed to study and manipulate these poorly understood microbes, with the long term goal of creating the knowledge and tools needed to mitigate this potent anthropogenic driver of climate change. Candidates with a Ph.D. in any field related to the biology and evolution of microbes are encouraged to apply, especially those skilled in the genetic manipulation of microbes and/or the biology of anaerobic microorganisms.

Positions are initially two-year appointments starting in early 2025. The roles offer competitive salaries, health insurance, and opportunities for professional development. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled.

Research Sites

This initiative involves a multinational team funded by the Global Methane Hub. Successful applicants will be placed at advanced research institutions in the United States of America, Germany and New Zealand.

Required Qualifications

PhD in any field related to the biology of microorganisms.

Strong publication record, with excellent quantitative, writing, and presentation skills.

Desirable qualifications

Significant experience in either anaerobic microbiology or microbial genetics is strongly preferred. Candidates with both qualifications are ideally suited for these positions.

Multidisciplinary knowledge and research experience in microbial physiology and ecology, gut microbiome, bioinformatics and biochemistry are useful for these positions.

Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
