The newly established lab of Dr. Junichi Saito (https://www.augusta.edu/centers/vbc/saito.php) is NIH-funded and is seeking talented and motivated postdoctoral scientists to join the team at the Vascular Biology Center in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, USA.

Our research questions are i) How do vascular cells respond to surrounding cues such as extracellular matrix during development? and ii) Why does this morphogenesis go awry in vascular diseases?

We apply developmental biology, genetic, biochemical, and omics approaches to uncover key insights into the morphogenesis and pathogenesis of the blood vessel wall. Our ongoing projects focus on the following areas (relevant publications):

Aorta and Elastin Aortopathy (Nat Cardiovasc Res. 2026; iScience. 2024; J Clin Invest. 2022)

Ductus Arteriosus and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (Semin Perinatol. 2023; J Cardiovasc Dev Dis. 2021; PLoS One. 2018)

Cerebral Vasculature and Intracranial Hemorrhage (Stroke. 2024)

Responsibilities:

Planning and performing experiments, and analyzing data

Presenting data at lab meetings and international conferences

Writing scientific papers and grant applications

Requirements:

PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree before starting the postdoc (Preference will be given to applicants who recently obtained a PhD degree)

Experience in molecular and cellular biology, mouse genetics, and omics approaches

Hardworking to pursue top-notch scientific investigation
